RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Department / Research Program: RESP

We wish to recruit a Research Assistant to join the lab of Dr. Elizabeth Fixman to manage projects and perform experiments aligned with a CIHR-funded project entitled: “Sex-specific mechanisms by which environmental triggers promote durable changes to the lung to exacerbate type 2 innate and adaptive immunity.” Incumbent will use preclinical models complemented by studies examining primary cells from humans with a focus on group 2 innate lymphoid cells. Murine models use respiratory syncytical virus, so biosafety level 2 training is required. The incumbent will manage the lab on a daily basis and train incoming students. Incumbent will perform experiments, both in vivo and in vitro, perform data analysis and participate in manuscript writing.

General Duties

Design and perform experiments in mice and using human leukocytes, Design flow cytometry panels and perform flow cytometry analysis, Support student trainees in the lab, Ensure ethics protocols are up to date, Order supplies for the lab.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

Field of Study: Immunology/Allergy

Work Experience: Experience in flow cytometry and animal handling is an important asset.

Required Skills

Knowledge of French is required. An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.

Status: Temporary, part-time: 28 hours per workweek

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Other or part-time

Other: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 3:30pm

Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd.
