The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the implementation of disability-related accommodations and services for SFU Students. CAL is responsible for upholding SFU's General Policy 26 ("Accessibility for Students with Disabilities") and also advocates on issues related to diversity, educational equity, and academic achievement. The CAL Accessible team has key student-facing and instructor-facing responsibilities to ensure that SFU upholds its legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. The team administers over 10,000 unique accommodated exams per year and works collaboratively with Disability Access Advisors and Exam Assistants to create an inclusive environment during the accommodated exam-writing experience. In addition to accommodated exams, the team is responsible for coordinating and implementing in-class accommodations to support students in lectures. About the Role A part of a team that is responsible for coordinating and implementing the day-to-day activities for the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL's) accommodated exams services and in-class accommodations which effects the institution's legal obligation to provide services, programs and facilities free from discrimination for all students and members of the community not covered by other offices or policy. The Disability Services Officer collaborates closely with students, faculty, and campus partners to design, implement, and continuously improve individualized accommodations and services that enable equitable participation in the academic environment. This role combines subject-matter expertise in assistive technologies, accessibility practices, and accommodation implementation with strong operational leadership. We are looking for a resourceful, energetic and highly organized individual who is a natural leader and is passionate about equity for students with disabilities. Our ideal candidate will have solid competencies in organization, priority-setting, and problem-solving in a consistently high-output environment. They will be able to communicate with vulnerable, diverse populations using compassion, confidence and sensitivity, and will proactively engage with students, instructors, and technology to better implement accommodations. Full Job Description Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Sciences, or a related discipline, and two years of related experience in areas such as project management and the handling of sensitive confidential information involving equity and diversity issues, database management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Good knowledge and experience to dealing with vulnerable populations. Excellent knowledge of specialized software and specialized databases Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to handle competing requests from multiple sources and to regularly interact with individuals who may be experiencing difficulties. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
