The base salary will be $62,480 - $89,040 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us
The Communications and Marketing team within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry protects, promotes, and enhances the reputation of the School locally, nationally, and internationally. This is achieved through strategic communications planning; the development, production, and management of digital and print publications; social media and e-communications; marketing and branding initiatives; media relations; and audience engagement across the School and University.
Responsibilities
The Communications Officer supports the development and execution of communications and marketing initiatives for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry by creating and coordinating high-quality, strategic content across multiple platforms. Reporting to the Managing Editor, Communications & Marketing, the role supports communications and marketing projects, contributes to the implementation of the School’s overarching communications and marketing strategy, supports brand storytelling, and enhances engagement with internal and external audiences in alignment with Schulich and Western University standards. The role protects, promotes, and enhances the reputation of the School, University and its people by managing communications, generating positive news and media coverage, and ensuring adherence with University policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Media Studies, or a related discipline
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in a communications, marketing, or content-focused role
- Demonstrated experience creating and coordinating content for digital and print platforms, including social media and e-communications
- Experience in an academic or health care setting is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to find and tell compelling, multi-media stories is an asset
- In-depth knowledge of e-communication tools, principles and knowledge of social media platforms relevant to academic populations
- Knowledge of theory and best practices in brand journalism and communications trends and best practices
- In-depth knowledge of principles of writing, including grammar and style, proofreading abilities and an excellent command of the English language
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the University
- Ability to analyze metrics and consider past communications to craft engaging written communications
- Ability to think creatively and use a non-prescriptive approach in marketing and communications initiatives
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess complex higher education issues of concern to stakeholders, including the media, the public, and prospective donors
- Demonstrated intercultural competency and knowledge of cross-cultural research and work practices
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with Adobe programs (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and with CMS platforms (such as Cascade)
- Photography and videography skills would be an asset
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Ability to develop strategies that are in line with the School and University's mission and which balance competing priorities
