We are looking for two IT/Cybersecurity students to join the ATCO Energy Billing Systems Team. Work term starts in September 2026 for 12-month period in Calgary.

Reporting to the Manager, RUBIX Billing Operations, the IT Analyst COOP Student, is a key, hands-on role. You’ll utilize your business analysis and IT skills to ensure ATCOenergy Call Center Agents & Supervisors, Back Office, Finance, Marketing and Pricing/Products have their needs met through the efficient operation of ATCOenergy’s mass market electricity and natural gas billing system. You’ll also work with the direction of the Operations team to maximize the success of all billing-related IT projects from ideation & intake to release & sustainment.

Who you are:

  • Must be enrolled in a co-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university.

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (e.g., Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, or related)

  • Communication skills are critical, both verbal and written communication skills will be essential in producing the results required for the role

  • You can work effectively across a cross-functional team while supporting conflicting priorities and deadlines

  • Comfortable with job duties that will change and develop as the business grows. Includes “other duties as assigned” and working outside the box

  • You’re a tenacious problem solver, you excel at uncovering opportunities and implementing processes that make the world – or at least our business – run smoothly

  • Entrepreneurial mindset – Results & Profit oriented - with a desire to create or build new business

  • Business mindset with very good numerical & analytical skills, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, creating efficiencies and economies of scale

What You Get to Do:

Responsibility Area #1 – RUBIX Billing System Operations

  • Assist with the daily production of customer invoices from the RUBIX Billing System
  • Assist with quality control on RUBIX inputs and outputs
  • Learn as directed specific vendor operating, configuring & custom scripting documentation
  • Assist with daily review and actioning of system event logs
  • Assist with ad-hoc querying of databases
  • Documentation of business processes

Responsibility Area #2 –Incident Response

  • Assist the Service Delivery group with Incident response for RUBIX components
  • Assist with creating and updating IT service tickets in vendor portals
  • Assist with upkeep of the documentation library for all vendor products resulting from changes required to resolve an incident
  • Assist with identifying changes required to prevent serious incidents from occurring/recurring

Responsibility Area #3 – RUBIX Quality Assurance

  • Assist with QA and functional testing support internal and/or vendor development teams with technical solutions to support Business needs while ensuring adherence to ATCO approved IT project delivery methods
  • Assist in identifying test scenarios & ensuring adequate test coverage to prevent detrimental impacts in PROD
  • Follow the testing discipline as directed by senior resources
  • Assist in reviewing client, customer, and user feedback on development and testing

Responsibility Area #4 – Release

  • Assist in identifying release risks, and work with vendors & IT Support to resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Participate in Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Participate in the development of Deployment and Implementation Plans
  • Assist the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists

Responsibility Area #5 –Development

  • Application development and support utilizing languages such as Python, Power BI, and Power Shell
  • Creation of database ERD diagrams
  • Assisting with automation, data analysis, and system improvements in a production billing environment.
