Student & External Relations The Academic Advisor plays a key role in supporting student progression and success by providing informed academic guidance from admission through graduation. Working collaboratively with Faculty and the Office of the Registrar, the Advisor helps students navigate program requirements, explore pathways to credentials or further education, and access supports when facing academic challenges. This role combines strong relationship‑building with expertise in program‑specific progression, delivering a consistent, high‑quality advising experience across in‑person, virtual, and digital channels—including proactive and AI‑enabled tools—to advance student retention and achievement.    HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Provide proactive, developmental academic advising to new and current students across in‑person, virtual, and digital channels, supporting program planning, course selection, and progression from admission to graduation.

Guide students in exploring academic pathways, setting realistic educational and career goals, and understanding the implications of academic decisions, including withdrawals, academic standing, and graduation requirements.

Monitor student progress, identify concerns early, and implement timely interventions and follow‑ups to promote retention, persistence, and overall academic success.

Interpret and communicate academic policies, procedures, and program requirements, ensuring students receive accurate, program‑specific information and are referred to Faculty or other supports when appropriate.

Build strong collaborative relationships with Faculty, student services, and registrarial teams to support a coordinated student experience and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of programs, pathways, and institutional processes.

Maintain specialized advising expertise for assigned programs, updating advising resources and contributing to cross‑training within the advising team.

Use AI‑enabled tools, data insights, and student success plans to prioritize outreach, enhance advising impact, and document all student interactions in a centralized system.

Support student engagement and success initiatives by participating in workshops, events, recruitment activities, and continuous improvement of advising processes, communications, and chatbot content.

WHAT YOU BRING

A bachelor’s degree (Arts, Education, Business, or related field preferred) and 3–5 years of student advising or student‑centered experience in a post‑secondary environment.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and de‑escalation skills, with the ability to support diverse student populations with professionalism and empathy.

Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams, while also working independently, prioritizing tasks, and exercising sound judgment.

Proven ability to remain calm and solution‑focused in demanding situations, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and a positive, student‑centered approach.

Proficiency with advising tools and systems (PeopleSoft an asset), along with strong presentation skills and comfort navigating multiple channels of student support.

  SALARY: AUPE Band Level 8 | Advisor II | $2,515 - $3,266 bi-weekly reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience.
