Education Assistant Reports to: Senior Director of Education & Community EngagementStatus: Contract (Summer 2026)Hourly Rate: $21/hourThe Education Assistant will assist the Education & Community Engagement team with crucial planning in advance of the 2026/27 Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO) and TSO education programs? start in September 2026. The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in orchestra administration and music education, and who has strong organizational and communication skills.This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs criteria (outlined below) to be eligible. This role reports to the Senior Director of Education & Community Engagement and works closely with the TSYO Manager and Family & School Programs Manager. The TSO maintains a hybrid work schedule with in-office dates to be determined between the Education Assistant and their manager. Responsibilities include:EducationCreate and compile educational materials in support of TSO School Concerts, including writing program notes and composer biographies for teacher study guide materials, assembling Google Slides presentations for use in the classroom, and designing pre-concert trivia questions;Write a description of what the music in the Relaxed Performances will sound like, for use in the TSO?s three Relaxed Performance Fact Sheets;Conduct research on peer organizations? product offerings to support the Education team?s development of inclusive programming;Research pre-concert lobby performers and activities to engage young audiences and families at upcoming Young People?s Concerts;Other duties in Education & Community Engagement as assigned.Toronto Symphony Youth OrchestraAssist with creating TSYO audition packages, including audition preparation guides, compiling excerpts, proofreading packages, and facilitating reviews from staff and faculty before distributing to applicants;Produce sheet music for the upcoming season including transcribing music markings and printing individual parts and scores;Prepare the TSYO Handbook with season-specific details and policies for the upcoming season?s members;Assist with managing TSYO web pages and ensuring up to date information is communicated to applicants.Experience & Qualifications:Background and/or training in orchestral music is essentialBackground and/or training in music education is an assetAbility to work independently and within a team Able to prioritize tasks and work within deadlinesSelf-motivated with strong organizational and communication skillsComfortable using G-Suite, including using Google Drive, Sheets, and Docs to organize and communicate informationLight lifting may be required for this positionCanada Summer Jobs RequirementsTo be eligible for this position, you must:be between 15 and 30 years of age as of the start date;be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.*Per the funding requirements, International Students are not eligible for Canada Summer Jobs positions.Deadline to Apply: Monday June 8, 2026Application Instructions: Click the apply now button and submit your cover letter and resume by the deadline: Monday June 8, 2026.
