Job Summary: The General Labourer (Term Contract) 3 months – Tenant Improvements supports the successful completion of commercial tenant improvement projects by performing a variety of construction and site maintenance tasks. This role is responsible for assisting trades, maintaining a safe and organized worksite, handling materials, and contributing to project completion while ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.

This position is full-time, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm (subject to change of business needs and team assignments).

Key Responsibilities:

Site Preparation & Support

  • Assist with demolition, site clean-up, and preparation for construction activities.
  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Set up and maintain temporary barriers, signage, and safety equipment.
  • Prepare work areas for drywall, painting, flooring, millwork, and finishing trades.

Construction Assistance

  • Support skilled tradespeople including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, and flooring installers.
  • Perform basic carpentry, framing, drywall patching, painting, and finishing tasks as directed.
  • Assist with installation of fixtures, millwork, doors, hardware, and other tenant improvement components.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

Site Maintenance & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free construction site.
  • Remove debris and ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
  • Follow all company safety policies and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Conduct daily inspections of tools and equipment.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or deficiencies immediately.

Material Handling

  • Receive and verify deliveries.
  • Organize and store materials to prevent damage and maintain productivity.
  • Monitor inventory levels of supplies and notify supervisors when materials require replenishment.

Quality Control

  • Complete assigned tasks to company quality standards.
  • Ensure workmanship meets project specifications and client expectations.
  • Assist with deficiency corrections and project close-out activities.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous construction or tenant improvement experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience working on commercial, retail, or office renovation projects is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with reliable transportation is a necessity.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and follow basic construction drawings and instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of construction site safety practices.
  • Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to drive an oversized truck (F-550 Dump Truck).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, perform overhead work, and carry out physically demanding labour throughout the workday.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate construction equipment and tools.

Required Certifications

  • Occupational First Aid (asset).
  • WHMIS Certification (asset).
  • Valid driver's license (required).
