POSITION OVERVIEW

The Student, Securitization and Specialty Finance (SSF) will support the SSF team with projects, operational, reporting, analytical, and documentation-related activities across the securitization and specialty finance platform. The role provides hands-on exposure to BDC’s specialized financing business.

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated student to develop practical experience in asset-based financing. The intern will work closely with experienced finance professionals and internal partners to support the execution and ongoing management of SSF transactions.

The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with financial data, legal documentation, and evolving business processes. They are proactive, organized, willing to ask thoughtful questions, and interested in developing a deeper understanding of securitization, asset-backed lending, risk management, and specialty finance.

This role is temporary from September 2026 to December 2026.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Assist with funding and disbursement activities related to transactions, including supporting the review of funding packages, data tapes, notices, models, and related documentation. Support the preparation, coordination, and organization of documentation required for funding, settlement, annual reviews, renewals, audits, and internal approvals. Support the review of transaction documents, agreements, procedures, and reports to identify key terms, requirements, covenants, eligibility criteria, conditions precedent, triggers, and follow-up items. Support the interpretation and summarization of legal, financial, and operational documentation in a clear and structured manner for the team. Assist with portfolio monitoring activities, including reviewing monthly reporting, settlement reports, performance data, covenant compliance, concentration limits, and portfolio trends. Assist in analyzing portfolio data and cash flow, performance, delinquency, loss, concentration, and trend analysis. Help validate, organize, reconcile, and maintain data used for funding, reporting, portfolio monitoring, annual reviews, and special projects. Support the preparation of internal reports, presentation materials, business updates, process documentation, and analysis on portfolio and team performance. Assist with annual review activities by gathering, organizing, and summarizing financial, operational, portfolio, and client information. Help support monthly settlement activities, payment date reporting, reconciliations, and follow-up on discrepancies or missing information. Support process improvement initiatives, including documenting workflows, identifying opportunities to streamline manual processes, and helping strengthen controls and reporting discipline. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across SSF, Risk Management, Legal, Treasury, Accounting, Operations, and other business units. Support ad hoc requests and special projects related to transaction structuring, portfolio oversight, governance, reporting, technology, data quality, and operational effectiveness. Drive research projects related to securitization, asset-backed finance, specialty finance products, industry trends, originators, asset classes, or market practices.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, business administration, accounting, economics, law, financial risk management, data analytics, or another related discipline. Strong interest in finance, banking, capital markets, securitization, structured finance, asset-backed lending, specialty finance, or risk management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through detailed information, identify patterns, and draw practical conclusions. Excellent attention to detail, including the ability to review documentation, reconcile information, validate data, and identify inconsistencies or gaps. Strong ability to read, understand, and summarize complex documents, including legal agreements, transaction documents, policies, procedures, credit memos, funding notices, and reporting packages. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets, formulas, reconciliations, financial models, and data validation. Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and communicate findings clearly, both verbally and in writing. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise summaries, clear documentation, and professional internal communications. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on outstanding items. Proactive and self-motivated, with a willingness to take initiative, ask questions, learn quickly, and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when working with confidential or sensitive financial and business information. Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate questions, risks, discrepancies, or issues. Experience with Copilot, Power BI, data visualization, VBA, SQL, Python, or other data analytics tools is considered an asset. Knowledge of securitization, asset-backed lending, structured finance, commercial lending, accounting, legal documentation, or financial risk analysis is considered an asset. Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
