The STEM English Language Enhancement and Cultural Program is an eight-week immersive initiative hosted by the University of Regina for 30 undergraduate students in STEM disciplines from Yucatán, Mexico.

Facilitation should be designed to support students across varying levels of English proficiency within STEM disciplines, with a strong emphasis on practical communication skills and real-world application. The program will also require ongoing coordination with the Study Abroad and Global Mobility team throughout its implementation and between the two facilitators.

The program integrates discipline-specific English language development with academic enrichment and professional preparation to support success in global STEM environments. Instruction is focused on strengthening communication skills within authentic STEM contexts, enabling participants to:

• Engage in technical discussions
• Collaborate effectively in team-based environments
• Clearly articulate scientific concepts

What You’ll Do:

1. Program Coordination:

• Approx. 40 hours total (prior to program start)
• Develop curriculum that integrates English language instruction (speaking, listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary) within STEM-focused contexts.
• Incorporate applied and experiential learning opportunities where appropriate. Ensure engagement with provincial industry partners and innovation sectors.

2. Facilitation:

• Deliver engaging, interactive programming aligned with objectives
• 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays)
• Approx. 99 hours total

3. Program Integration

• Participate occasionally in morning or afternoon experiential activities to inform instructional content
• Estimated ~2-4 hours per week

4. Participant Assessment

• Complete a Progress Report for each participant at the end of the program including an overall evaluation of language development and engagement.
• Approx 40 hrs after program ends to report and wrap up with Study Abroad

Position Requirements

What You’ll Bring to this Position:

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant STEM field
• Experience in international contexts and English language proficiency.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Anticipated Timeline

• June 15 – 21: Program creation period
• June 22: Welcome brunch (10:00 – 11:30 AM)
• June 23: First day of instruction
• August 14: Final day of instruction / Farewell lunch (12:30pm-2:00pm)
• August 17 – 19: Submission of participant progress reports
