About Us:
The Project Delivery Section is responsible for the delivery of many engineering services and products. Staffed by engineers, project managers, technicians and support personnel, the Project Delivery Section holds the primary responsibility for the design of highway rehabilitation, highway expansion, and safety related projects to meet current and future needs of the travelling public.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • manage the timely delivery of complex planning and design projects undertaken both in-house and by external consultants
  • lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams for preliminary and detailed design of highway improvements
  • interact with ministry management, municipalities, external agencies and the public
  • provide engineering and technical advice and direction to design staff, management, consultants and construction staff
  • protect ministry interests on land development proposals adjacent to transportation corridors

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • You are licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or You currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position.
  • You possess a valid driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the province of Ontario.

Technical knowledge:

  • knowledge theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering to provide engineering, technical and administrative guidance on transportation in-house and external consultant projects
  • working knowledge of related fields including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, construction practices
  • knowledge of consultant management principles and procedures to coordinate and oversee the acquisition, monitoring and evaluation of service providers in the delivery of engineering assignments
  • knowledge of related legislative acts such as Environmental Assessment Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act and Drainage Act to ensure adherence of designs

Communication, presentation and relationship-building skills:

You have:

  • communication and presentation skills to make presentations and represent the ministry on engineering and technical matters
  • relationship-building skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, senior officials and the public
  • written communication skills to write reports and briefing notes as well as to prepare ministerial correspondence responding to public inquiries

Project management skills and knowledge:

  • You have knowledge of project management techniques to manage projects of small and medium size and complexity
  • You are able to provide engineering, technical and administrative advice/guidance to junior staff and consultants
  • You can provide guidance on the acquisition, monitoring and evaluation of service providers in the delivery of engineering assignments

Analytical and problem solving skills:

You are able to:

  • assess engineering designs, proposals, contract drawings and documents to prepare special provisions and standards against established standards and guidelines
  • review proposals to determine their viability and oversee project budgets to ensure project parameters are met.
  • review, analyze information data, identify issues that have direct impact on public safety, natural/social environment, engineering design standards and cost, and provide engineering solutions
