Req ID: 28322Vacancy Type: Temporary  Contract Duration: Up to 24 monthsNumber of Positions: 1  Closing Date: 07/16/2026Job Summary   Reporting to the Manager, Rapid Transit Program Office, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of landscape architecture and streetscape elements for the City’s Rapid Transit Program. You will review design drawings and development applications, provide comments, and help ensure projects align with public realm, urban design, and infrastructure requirements. Duties and Responsibilities   The successful candidate will be responsible for:  

Providing landscape architecture support for the development and delivery of the City of Mississauga’s Rapid Transit Program. Reviewing conceptual, preliminary and detailed design drawings and documents prepared by the City’s design consultants and other third-party stakeholders. Delivering the public realm/streetscape vision for Rapid Transit corridors through providing comments on the project design documents, and coordinating comments from City streetscape stakeholders. Providing responses to design and construction Request For Information (RFIs) in a timely manner. Supporting the review of PUCC applications and utility plans, and providing comments to safeguard and advance tree planting, soil volume, pedestrian lighting, paving, active-transportation facilities, and other streetscape and public realm features. Reviewing and providing comments on development applications, including site plans, frontage and streetscape works, grading and utility plans, and driveway, access and active-transportation arrangements, so that adjacent development coordinates with rapid transit public realm, landscape, urban design, and transit infrastructure requirements. Considering operational and maintenance aspects in developing/refining the vision and streetscape design. Finding a balance between the infrastructure requirements of street trees, adjacent development, transit and active transportation infrastructure to create functional and attractive streetscapes. Working with a multi-disciplinary City team as well as third-party stakeholders that include the Region of Peel, Metrolinx, conservation authorities, developers, contractors and delivery partners, and public utility companies to develop a comprehensive approach to the City’s streetscape design. Supporting construction and contract administration for landscape and streetscape works, including review of shop drawings and submittals, mock-ups, site and field reviews, deficiency identification, construction-phase RFI responses, and review of landscape-related change requests and quantities. Reviewing and inspecting plant material, overseeing planting establishment and warranty / maintenance-period reviews, and coordinating landscape handover to operations and maintenance. Performing other related duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications  

Have a University Graduate Degree from a recognized University Program in Landscape Architecture, with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible Design and Construction experience. Be a full member of, or eligible for full membership in the OALA. Experience in both private and public sector preferred. Excellent design, report writing, problem solving, time management and leadership skills. Strong knowledge of design and construction details and specifications related to public realm and streetscape design. Comprehensive understanding of construction methods and practices, including landscape, streetscape, specifications, sequencing, and constructability. Experience reviewing development applications, site plans and streetscape, grading and utility submissions in an urban corridor or infrastructure context is an asset. Excellent attention to detail, proven organizational and time management skills. Ability to negotiate/facilitate, build consensus and present information to varied audiences. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and sound file management skills is essential. A working knowledge of AutoCAD/MicroStation and other graphic applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch-Up, Bluebeam, GIS/ArcGIS) and document and comment-management platforms is an asset. Knowledge of Geomatics, coordinate-based design and Specialized Road Design Software (OpenRoads, Torus, Autoturn) is an asset. Knowledge of applicable legislation and design standards including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act is an asset. An understanding of the workings of affected parties including but not limited to Utilities, Governmental Jurisdictions such as the Region of Peel, Conservation Authorities, and Provincial Authorities such as Metrolinx is an asset. Must have the ability to travel between various sites and facilities located across the City of Mississauga.
