Build a Future at the City of SurreySCOPEThe City of Surrey is seeking an Environmental Technologist for performing a wide variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of implementation of the City?s development application process for soil permits, sensitive ecosystem development permit areas and associated urban forestry policies and procedures within Planning and Development. The position requires the ability to interpret plans and technical reports, prepare and maintain records, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.EMPLOYMENT STATUSUnion - CUPE Local 402 - Project (2 Year)RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the review of soil permit applications and technical submissions for completeness and general compliance with the Soil Protection Bylaw Coordinate with applicants, consultants, and internal departments to resolve submission requirements Maintain tracking systems and records for permit applications Assists staff in the review of stream classification report submissions, invasive species management programs and bird nesting surveys Assist with developing a spatial database and tracking system Respond to residential inquiries related to soil and environmental concerns. Performs field inspections and investigations related to soil permits requirements and eco violations Support maintenance of mapping and environmental data systems Performs other duties as requiredQUALIFICATIONS Diploma in Environmental Technology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field 2 - 3 years of related experience in environmental monitoring, permitting support, or compliance Working knowledge of environmental regulations, soil management practices, and watercourse protection Experience reviewing environmental or technical submissions is an asset Strong field inspection and data collection skills Ability to interpret technical information and communicate effectively Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
