Sr. Purview Engineer – Contractor Employer: WebZion LLC Location: Remote
Position Objective The Senior Engineer will assist with the design, implementation, and optimization of Microsoft Purview Information Lifecycle Governance capabilities across SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and unstructured data platforms (e.g., NAS/file shares). This role is expected to operate as a technical leader, driving retention compliance strategies, automation, reporting, and process maturity aligned to regulatory, legal, and risk requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesInformation Lifecycle Governance Engineering · Architect, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide data retention and records management strategies using Microsoft Purview (Records Management & Data Lifecycle Management). · Design and deploy retention labels, policies, event-based retention, disposition workflows, and review processes across unstructured content platforms. · Technical Delivery of SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and support NAS/file share retention initiatives. · Ensure governance solutions meet compliance, audit, legal hold, and risk management requirements.
Technical Leadership & Strategy · Act as a senior technical advisor for Purview lifecycle governance capabilities, providing design guidance and best practices. · Drive adoption of automation-first and policy-driven governance models. · Partner with Data Protection, Information Lifecycle Governance, IT Infrastructure, and Application teams to align governance strategy and execution.
Automation, Reporting & Optimization · Develop and maintain advanced automation and reporting solutions using PowerShell, Python, and Microsoft Graph API. · Create governance dashboards, metrics, and compliance reporting to support audits, risk reviews, and leadership visibility. · Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and optimize lifecycle governance processes at scale.
Operational Excellence · Lead and facilitate technical working sessions and governance design reviews. · Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, operating procedures, audit evidence, and risk artifacts. · Support incident investigation, compliance inquiries, and audit engagements related to retention and records management.
Required Technical Expertise · Expert-level experience with Microsoft Purview: · Records Management · Data Lifecycle Management · Retention Labels & Policies · Disposition Reviews · Strong hands-on experience with: · SharePoint Online, OneDrive, NAS Storage · Microsoft 365 and Azure services · Windows Server and enterprise infrastructure platforms · Advanced scripting and automation skills: · PowerShell (required) · Python (preferred) · Microsoft Graph API for governance automation and reporting · Working knowledge of: · Data retention regulations and records management principles · eDiscovery, legal hold, and audit support workflows
Soft Skills & Senior-Level Expectations · Proven ability to operate independently and lead complex initiatives end-to-end · Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail · Clear, concise communicator able to engage technical teams and senior stakeholders · Process-driven, metrics-focused, and improvement-oriented · Comfortable working in highly regulated, audit-driven environments · Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and initiative
Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
