The Role
Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation & Community Development, the Student Skate Patrol is responsible for the on-ice supervision of public skating and on-ice coordination and supervision of youth shinny hockey

We provide high-quality, accessible recreation opportunities across Kingston’s facilities, including arenas, pools, marinas, sports fields, and community centres. Our team ensures these spaces are well-maintained and welcoming, supporting programs, groups and activities that bring people together and promote active living.
What You'll Do...
Ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants through communication and enforcement of program and facility rules
Address unsafe/unacceptable behavior and manage conflicts appropriately and professionally
Address first aid requirements and complete injury report forms as required
Maintain the cleanliness of program area
Communicate with members of the public/participants in a professional and courteous manner
Be highly visible and able to provide support to clients
Monitor admissions and program capacity
Maintain open and regular communication with Ticket Sellers/Cashiers
Enforce public skating and shinny hockey rules
Other duties as assigned
To qualify, you'll need...
Must be enrolled in full-time secondary or post-secondary studies in fall 2026. Verification will be required
Must be a proficient ice skater and demonstrate knowledge/experience playing and refereeing hockey
Current First Aid CPR-C certificate is required
Strong oral communication and problem solving skills
Ability to take control of difficult situations and manage conflicts in a calm and professional manner
Ability to deal with members of the public in a polite and courteous manner
Proven customer service skills
Must be flexible and reliable with respect to hours of work
Ability to work on short notice when required
Ability to follow direction and work with minimal supervision
Successful candidate will be required to provide own skates and hockey helmet and wear them at all times when on the ice
Successful candidate must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector
