The Environmental Stewardship department of the Climate Action, Planning & Development Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Western Toad Program Assistant. Reporting to the Environmental Technician, this position offers a variable schedule of up to 40 hours bi-weekly with shifts mostly on evenings and weekends starting July 15, 2026, through to August 25, 2026.
The Western Toad Program Assistant provides public education for the RMOW’s Western Toad Conservation Project at Lost Lake Park. The Program Assistant will also assist in delivering the RMOW’s Western Toad Conservation Project, responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring, data collection, installing informational signs, conducting minor repairs of migration infrastructure, and coordinating volunteers onsite at Lost Lake Park.
Qualified candidates have a grade 12 diploma with at least 6 months of experience in a similar position including public education. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in or have completed a recognized 2-year post-secondary program, in Conservation, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management or a related program. Qualified candidates demonstrate knowledge of Western Toad’s, their life cycles and familiarity with the RMOW’s Western Toad Conservation Program at Lost Lake. Qualified candidates are proficient with Microsoft 365 and physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
The successful candidate is a great communicator who is professional and approachable with a customer service orientation, a well-developed safety awareness, and the strong ability to work well independently. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and equitable workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this job position is $29.53 per hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.
