In this role, you'll spend your time out in the community-supporting safe and respectful use of over 190 km of trails, connecting with residents, and helping create positive experiences at local festivals and events. If you enjoy a mix of outdoor work, community engagement, and hands-on event support, this is a great opportunity to make a visible impact in our city.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Engage with trail users to answer questions, provide direction, and share information about city amenities.
  • Monitor trail conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Support a welcoming and respectful environment across our parks and pathways.
  • Support the setup, operation, and wrap-up of community events and festivals.
  • Act as a point of contact for event participants, vendors, and attendees.
  • Help coordinate on-site logistics and troubleshoot in real time.
  • Represent the City in a professional, approachable way at public events.
  • Assist with promoting programs, services, and upcoming activities.

What you bring:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills to manage program delivery and keep accurate records.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to providing exceptional service.
  • Ability to react positively to demands and unexpected changes in work priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and the willingness to learn city-specific software.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekends. However, currently we are looking specifically for evening and weekend coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalency diploma.
  • Six (6) months of general experience in Parks and Recreation programming or a related field.
  • Must be of minimum age (18).
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with current CPR and Standard First Aid Certificate C.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • This is a temporary position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. To be eligible, applicants must:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age; however, applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old to be eligible for this position.
    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Additional Requirements: This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen. There will also be a requirement to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check and Interventions Record Check.
