About the role

Join our team at the Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo and help create meaningful and seamless event experiences at one of the most unique sites in Calgary! Our Catering Front of House team is seeking seasonal Catering AV Technicians who will provide critical technical support for the Catering Department’s peak season operations. This role is responsible for the end-to-end execution of audiovisual requirements for meetings, conferences, and high-profile live productions. The technicians ensure seamless signal flow, real-time troubleshooting, and professional equipment management to maintain the department’s high standards of event delivery.

Contract:

  • Start Date: July 2026
  • End Date: September 2026

What you will do:

Event Execution & Technical Operation 

  • Strong understanding of HDMI troubleshooting, signal pathing, and equipment inter-connectivity. 
  • Operate AV systems during live events, including managing audio levels, switching video feeds, and executing lighting cues. 
  • Lead the physical installation and dismantling of equipment, including audio systems (microphones, mixers, speakers), video systems (projectors, LED walls, cameras), and lighting rigs. 
  • Demonstrate mastery of signal flow and cabling (HDMI, SDI, XLR) and assist with network configurations for IP-based AV systems and Dante. 
  • Expertly manage wireless microphone setups, frequency coordination, and monitoring to ensure interference-free audio. 
  • Manage video conferencing platforms (Zoom, MS Teams), media servers, and control software (e.g., Crestron, Extron) for hybrid and virtual event components. 

Troubleshooting & Maintenance 

  • Rapidly identify and resolve technical failures or signal disruptions during live events to ensure zero downtime. 
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including cleaning hardware and performing firmware updates on AV equipment. 
  • Maintain rigorous cable management and equipment safety protocols to ensure a clean and hazard-free event environment. 

Client & Professional Standards 

  • Maintain a high level of customer service and professional conduct when interacting with clients, keynote presenters, and performers. 
  • Maintain availability for evening, weekend, and irregular hours as dictated by the live event and corporate meeting schedule.

What you will bring: 

  • Diploma or Certificate in Audiovisual Technology, Electronics, or Broadcasting considered an asset.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience on a live production or corporate AV environment. 
  • Experience with analog and digital mixers (X32, XR12), DSP/matrix routing, and video switchers 
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills for understanding and addressing guest concerns 
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting event orders as it relates to Audio/Visual requirements

Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to stand and be mobile for extended periods 
  • Can lift/transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (22 kg).
  • Work schedule can include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
