The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and services to all sectors for commercial export operations and international contracting.

  

What you’ll be doing 

  • Provides legal advice on discreet issues or complex issues regarding solicitation notices, commercial contracts, service agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOU) and related issues; outlines legal implications and addresses risk mitigation; and makes recommendations on standards and novel contract clauses, conditions, and amendments for various business lines
  • Participates in external stakeholder meetings, reviews, interprets, and negotiates contracts between exporter and buyer, and mitigates risk and liability for CCC
  • Conducts legal research on national and international instruments, including international conventions, jurisprudence, opinions and precedents to provide advice to the business and to identify trends
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, identifies and assesses corporate and transactional risk, considers new and emerging jurisprudence and corporate practices, and develops risk mitigation strategies to support client needs and objectives
  • Participates on committees and working groups as a subject matter expert; provides legal advice to ensure alignment and consistency in program and service delivery; and provides input on policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices updates and development
  • Consults and develops relationships with key stakeholders at Global Affairs Canada and other Crown Corporation and departments for evolving areas of concern to CCC

 

What you’ll bring to CCC  

  • Completion of bachelor’s degree
  • Admission to the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Minimum of three years of experience in contract agreements
  • Knowledge of legal administration, practices, processes, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of issues, trends, best practices, and challenges related to core mandate and program area, commercial export operations, and international contracting
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, regulations, and guidelines
  • Knowledge of relevant economic, political, legal, cultural, and social contexts of partners and stakeholders.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages strongly recommended
