About the role

Your Opportunity:

Cancer Care Alberta is seeking a Senior Project Manager to help build processes and manage a large research and innovation fund that will help accelerate evidence generation and incentivize innovative care solutions, in collaboration with key strategic partners. Reporting to the Scientific and Program Director - Research, Partnerships and Innovation, the role will help design funding competition parameters, application guidelines, evaluation rubrics, and operational processes needed to launch, manage, and disburse funding. The position will support reporting requirements for multiple stakeholders and contribute to developing infrastructure and systems that enable a strong cancer research and innovation ecosystem, from ideation through to scaled adoption. Key responsibilities include creating detailed work plans, tracking progress, preparing project status and financial reports, and drafting communication materials (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, summary reports, meeting minutes, action logs, etc.). The role will cultivate relationships across partner organizations to ensure coordinated implementation. It will also support governance by developing and updating terms of reference, process flow charts and meeting schedules, while ensuring committees have what they need to deliver on time and on budget. Additional duties include procurement planning support and serving as a liaison with support groups as needed (e.g. IT, Finance, Contracting, Legal, etc.) to resolve issues and maintain smooth operations.

Description:

Project Management & Leadership: Leads development & oversight of work plans, ensuring scope, budget, timelines & deliverables are met. Sets objectives & aligns stakeholders on workload & expectations. Manages daily operations of the research & innovation fund, resolving issues & conflicts as needed. Conducts risk assessments, monitors progress, & escalates risks as needed. Supports complex issue resolution & recommends innovative solutions. Provides regular progress updates to stakeholders. Maintains complete, accurate records to support seamless communication & coordination. Prepares agendas, summaries, minutes, & communication materials, including presentations for senior leaders. Works independently while seeking guidance for complex matters & communicates sensitive information with tact. Relationship & Change Management: Builds strategic relationships with internal & external partners to advance shared goals & alignment. Coordinates review panels, including logistics. Recommends & guides process & procedural improvements to advance cancer research & innovation. Develops deep business knowledge to support complex stakeholder discussions & ecosystem design. Collaborates across interdependent systems, balancing diverse & sometimes conflicting priorities at local & provincial levels. Identifies risks, develops mitigation strategies, & escalates when required. Leads development & implementation of reporting strategies to track progress, outcomes, & impact for all governance levels. Supports creation of evaluation frameworks & tracks financial commitments & reporting requirements. Seeks stakeholder feedback & adjusts plans for clear communication & effective project delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a science or health-related field with a strong foundation in project management, research and innovation administration and/or evaluation methodology, equivalencies considered. 5 years’ experience working within clinical research or a health-related field in a health care organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Specialized expertise in project management methodologies, with a minimum of 5 years of progressive and related project management experience. Knowledge and demonstrated application of systems thinking, change management and leadership strategies. Equally comfortable working and communicating with researchers, clinicians and executives across diverse sectors, delivering messages and working toward collaborative resolution of issues. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse sectors including, but not limited to healthcare, postsecondary education, industry. Strong verbal and written communication skills: able to listen, comprehend and clearly convey information in an accurate, clear and concise manner.

Preference will be given to candidates with: Knowledge of Alberta’s cancer care landscape and key stakeholders across the continuum. Demonstrated experience and skills in problem solving, issues investigation and resolution. Demonstrated experience and skills in negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution.
