General Purpose
Alumni Affairs & Development (AA&D)’s purpose is to maximize philanthropic support for the University of Guelph’s mission of creating unique solutions for the challenges facing our world. The University of Guelph is currently planning to launch its first fundraising campaign since 2014. The campaign aims to expand on the University’s recent fundraising growth so that AA&D becomes a team that consistently raises $ 75 million a year by 2030. By aligning donor passions with the university's ambitious goals, the campaign will boost revenue, elevate the university's global profile, deepen donor relationships, and create a highly developed culture of philanthropy across the University community. Institutional leaders and volunteers will be highly engaged in advocating for the university's global impact and the vital role of philanthropy in achieving this vision.
Duties and Responsibilites
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Experience, the Advancement Marketing and Social Media Officer will help build an integrated social media presence for AA&D, including paid digital advertising and measurement/analytics. The Officer will provide expertise and leadership in social media community management, to help elevate alumni and donor engagement, Annual Giving campaigns, events, and fundraising priorities. The Officer will lead AA&D in social media best practices, stay on top of industry trends in alumni engagement, and develop tactics to help advance AA&D’s profile and brand reputation.
The Officer supports AA&D’s overall communications plan and leads the strategy on all social media marketing and communication for the department, taking into consideration specific needs of units and alumni segments. In particular, the Officer:
- Provides leadership and strategic advice to internal units around social media strategy development and message amplification for fundraising, stewardship and engagement initiatives
- Creates comprehensive digital campaigns in support of major fundraising and engagement initiatives (Giving Tuesday, Convocation, etc.)
- Plans a creative digital content strategy to support an annual communications calendar, in consultation with the Communications team, and other units.
- Markets AA&D initiatives such as alumni events, benefits, opportunities, and programs.
- Writes compelling content for website to promote on social channels – alumni stories, Q&As, promotional content, etc.
- Attends alumni events to promote alumni connections/stories through various social media channels.
- Acts as a representative for AA&D for pan-University engagement initiatives
- Coordinates and produces videos as needed for Alumni or Donor events
- Provides careful review, proofreading, and editing to ensure accuracy, correct grammar, and brand standards for all alumni communications.
- Undertakes other marketing, communications, creative and production tasks, as assigned
Requirements
The university recognizes that no one individual will have the following skills/experience in equal measure but the qualifications below will be used to assess the suitability of candidates throughout the process:

Undergraduate degree

At least 3 years experience establishing and maintaining social media channels, on-line communities including writing, editing and producing content

Demonstrated experience developing social media strategies and executing digital marketing campaigns.

Experience using digital marketing tools and platforms (e.g., social media management platforms, Google Analytics, and photo/video editing software).

Understanding of fundraising principles, with an emphasis on campaigns.

Exceptional written communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities.

Proficiency with graphic design software to create social media assets.

Demonstrated experience in alumni relations and/or communications.

Ability to work independently with flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills including negotiation.

Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and creative problem-solving ability.
