Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Manage the full-cycle payroll process for semi-monthly payroll
- Ensure accurate calculation of earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes
- Review and approve payroll runs, reconciliations, and remittances
- Oversee year-end payroll activities, including T4s and other statutory filings
- Resolve complex payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll legislation and tax regulations
- Maintain payroll policies, procedures and internal controls
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and best practices
- Support internal and external audits, providing documentation and analysis as required
- Ensure payroll controls and processes are documented and followed
Systems & Process Improvement
- Administer payroll systems Ceridian Dayforce
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy, and automation
- Lead or support system upgrades, implementations, and integrations
- Troubleshoot payroll system issues and work with vendors as needed
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to payroll team members
- Review work, set priorities, and ensure deadlines are met
- Support team training, especially related to new system adoption
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with HR, Finance and external providers to ensure accurate data flow
- Act as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution
- Provide reporting and analysis to support business decisions
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibility
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or PCP designation (or equivalent) preferred
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation (multi-province experience an asset)
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Dayforce, UKG)
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills

- Ability to quickly ramp up and stabilize payroll operations

- Identify and mitigate payroll risks associated with system implementation
- Develop and document payroll processes, controls, and SOPs in the new system
- Support the payroll cutover strategy and ensure a smooth transition to the new platform
- Provide training and guidance to payroll team members and key stakeholders on the new system
- Act as primary escalation point for payroll-related system issues during and post-implementation
- Support post-go-live stabilization, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives
Compensation Range: $95,000-$105,000. Actual pay rate will be based on the individual candidate’s credentials and experience.
Location: Please note that this role currently requires 1–2 days per week in the office at our 320 Bay Street location. Beginning January 2027, the office will relocate to Richmond Hill, with an expectation of 2 days per week onsite, increasing to 3 days per week as of June 2027.
