Make a Difference with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island!

Join our small, but dedicated team at Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. This a temporary, full-time position is ideal for a student returning to school in the fall. In this role, you will support the daily operations of our thrift stores and warehouse by receiving and processing donations, assisting customers, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.

Please note: this position may work out of any of our 3 locations so a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation is an asset.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and assist customers with purchases, questions, and concerns
  • Operate the POS system to complete sales, issue receipts, and balance cash at day’s end
  • Accept, sort, and price donations; politely decline unsuitable items
  • Maintain clean and organized donation and sales areas
  • Display merchandise neatly and restock as needed
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and taking out garbage/recycling
  • Monitor store safety and security in line Society policies
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash handling and reporting
  • Support volunteers and help with training or supervision as needed
  • Answer phones professionally and assist with inquiries
  • Load/unload Society truck or van when required

Our ideal Thrift Store Worker will bring the following:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Retail or customer service experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

These Skills and Abilities will help you thrive:

  • Knowledge of inventory control, shipping, and receiving is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable using computers and POS systems
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own workload.

Additional Requirements

  • A criminal record check including a Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
