Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED-4640-4 Educating for Global Citizenship – (taught in French)

This course is intended to broaden pre-service teachers’ theoretical and pedagogical perspectives on global citizenship education by gaining an enhanced awareness of a worldview that recognizes the interdependence and interconnections of the natural and social worlds. Participants will be introduced to the concept of global citizenship and, from this, develop an understanding of social justice, diversity, socio-cultural responsibility, sustainability, and agency. Demonstrating how to integrate global citizenship into educational practices is a key learning outcome of this course.

This course is taught in French to intermediate/secondary students in our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program. The course will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 am – 11:15 am, from September 2 to October 14, 2026.

ED-4962-96 Practicum 1 – (one French section)

Students will complete a 9-week teaching placement in a PEI public school with the guidance of a practicum Faculty advisor and a host mentor teacher. Students undertake planning and teaching effective lessons, develop personal classroom management strategies, and use strategies from methods courses to facilitate and assess student learning. Feedback from the host mentor teacher and faculty advisor will inform self- assessment and personal professional growth.

This course is offered in French and primarily involves in-school supervision of up to ten pre-service teachers as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester. This course is offered from October 15 to December 18, 2026.

Note: The public school system requires that all instructors possess a clean and valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Master of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Instructors teaching online courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course online.
