Job summary

Contract Term: June 1, 2026 – September 1, 2026 Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Class 4 Marine Engineer to support operations aboard an operating barge for the 2026 field season. This is a contract position responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems onboard the barge, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards. Key Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and maintain barge machinery and systems, including: Main and auxiliary engines Generators Pumps Hydraulic and fuel systems Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs to ensure safe and efficient operations Maintain accurate engine room logs, maintenance records, and defect reports Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs as required Ensure compliance with Transport Canada, company, and project-specific safety requirements Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills Work closely with the Captain, deck crew, and project personnel to support daily operations Maintain a safe, clean, and organized engine room and mechanical spaces Respond to alarms, malfunctions, and emergency situations as required

What you’ll do

Requirements

Requires a Class 4 Marine Engineer certification and experience in maintaining barge machinery. Must be able to conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and adhere to Transport Canada safety requirements.
