NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK: The focus of this position is to instruct fitness classes in the area of assignment. The incumbent will ensure a high level of customer service is maintained and that work is carried out in accordance with safety standards and best practices. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for planning and leadingfitness classes within their scope of practice with a focus on inclusivity and safety. The incumbent exercises independence of judgement and action within established policies, procedures and guidelines, referring difficult problems and impasses to their supervisor.2. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Provide supervision and instruction to the patrons in the fitness centre effectively and in aprofessional manner. Provide a well-planned lesson for each class. Enforce general facility and weight room code of conduct rules and guidelines. Teach patrons how to use equipment, review rules and safety in a group environment andenforce general rules of conduct in the fitness facilities. Check and report on fitness equipment that may need repairs Provide high quality customer service. Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for patrons. Keep Supervisors informed of day-to-day activities and operational needs. Perform basic administrative work, including printing and organizing forms, attendance sheets, and maintaining records. Provide minor first aid to patrons as needed. Perform other related duties as required.3. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants,recreation staff and the public. Ability to deal effectively with difficult or upset customers. Ability to apply theory-based knowledge in anatomy and physiology as it applies to the workperformed. Knowledge of the standard of care and working within your scope of practice. Knowledge of fitness equipment and how it can be used for fitness needs. Ability to prepare documents and communication. Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written. Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, holidays and weekends as required. Ability to be able to teach participants of all ages and abilities and adapt programs accordingly.4. REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of Grade 12 and six months related experience in the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 5.
