Job summary
The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (1 year) Registered Practical Nurse to work in the Forensic Secure Unit A (FSUA). As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure security, safety of the client care environment, and practice in accordance with the CNO standards, as well as CAMH Policies and Practice Model. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform ongoing assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care for clients who may be suffering from mental illness and who are detained under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). The Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will liaise with other services in the Forensic Division and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will have sound knowledge of clinical and risk management services to adults under the jurisdiction of the ORB. You will develop, implement and monitor risk management plans and ensure compliance with the ORB disposition. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development and provide educational support to students. You will participate in the preparation of ORB reports and implement the unit’s risk management processes. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status and physical assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members and charge nurses. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, and severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments and develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client centered care plans. This position involves 12- hour shift rotation working days, evenings and nights as well as weekend work. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.
