Our professional ski patrol team plays a vital role in maintaining the safety and enjoyment of our mountain environment. As a patroller, you'll be responsible for providing first aid to guests and staff, including WorkSafeBC-designated care, conducting risk management assessments, and ensuring safe conditions across resort terrain. You’ll work outdoors in all types of mountain weather, with duties ranging from on-snow first response and incident investigation to search and rescue, avalanche safety support, and guest relations. We're looking for team players who are confident on their skis or board, work well under pressure, and can deliver friendly, professional service to our guests. We’re proud to stand by our mission: **"To go the extra mile to ensure our visitors enjoy a memorable alpine experience in a positive, safe, and friendly environment."** ## **Position Overview** **Location:** Big White Ski Resort, British Columbia **Season Duration:** Early November – Mid April **Schedule:** 4 days on / 3 days off (10-hour shifts) **Wage:** $20.50–$23.50/hr (based on experience). Additional $0.50/hr upon completion of the training logbook **Perks:** Equipment/first aid allowances and seasonal bonuses upon completion of the season ## **Key Responsibilities** - Provide first aid to on-snow guests and respond to WorkSafeBC worker incidents - Conduct incident investigations and support resort risk management initiatives - Maintain and monitor runs for hazards and safety - Perform daily slope opening and closing procedures - Conduct snowmobile operations - Execute search and rescue missions and lift evacuations - Support avalanche control and rescue operations - Interact with guests as a frontline ambassador of the resort - Participate in Slope Watch and public safety initiatives **Watch:** A Day in the Life of Patrol (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1AXvT-39jc) ## **Required Qualifications & Skills** - Valid 80+ hour first aid certification (current at the time of employment). Accepted examples include: - - AFA (previously called OFA Level 3) - WFR (Wilderness First Responder) - EMR, PCP or higher - Australian Ski Patrol Association Certification - New Zealand PHEC - Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability - Excellent communication and teamwork skills - Knowledge of Big White Ski Resort (asset) - Additional assets (not required): - - AST1, CAA Level 1 or higher - WorkSafeBC Blasting Ticket *If you’re in the process of obtaining your first aid certification, please mention it in your application—we’ll take it into consideration.* ## **Required Personal Equipment** By your start date, you’ll need: - Helmet - Two full sets of skis or snowboard gear (boots, bindings, skis/board) - Avalanche probe and shovel - Smartphone with data ## **Application Checklist** Please include the following in your application: - Resume (PDF) - Cover Letter (PDF) - First Aid Certification - Any other relevant certifications ## **Recruitment Timeline** - **June 1** – Applications open - **August 1** – Interviews begin (it is strongly recommended you have completed your first aid course before your interview) - **August 22** – Reference checks - **September–October** – Offers sent out - **November 2 (tentative)** – Training begins Looking to volunteer instead?
