Controls Engineer – Propulsion Systems (Powertrain Controls & Calibration) Location: Windsor, ON, Canada Job Type: Open-Ended Contract About the Role We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to lead the development of advanced propulsion control strategies for conventional and electrified powertrains. This role focuses on designing, developing, calibrating, and validating control systems for engines, transmissions, hybrid, and electric propulsion technologies. The ideal candidate has a strong background in propulsion controls, control algorithm development, system design, calibration, and testing. You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams while providing technical leadership throughout the development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement propulsion control strategies for conventional and electrified powertrains. Design, develop, calibrate, and validate control algorithms for propulsion systems. Support system architecture, controls design, integration, and performance optimization. Perform calibration and testing to ensure system performance, reliability, and compliance. Lead technical activities and drive engineering projects from concept through validation. Analyze complex technical issues and develop effective engineering solutions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including controls, calibration, software, mechanical, and systems engineering. Provide technical guidance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Support project planning, execution, and successful delivery in a fast-paced engineering environment. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or another STEM discipline from an ABET-accredited university. Minimum 5 years of experience in propulsion system controls and calibration development. Hands-on experience with conventional and electrified powertrain systems. Strong understanding of control algorithm development and control strategy design. Experience with propulsion system calibration, validation, and testing. Proven analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated technical leadership on controls development projects. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented engineering environment. Preferred Experience Hybrid and electric vehicle propulsion systems. Engine and transmission controls. Model-based controls development. Systems engineering and control system integration. Powertrain testing and validation.

What you’ll do

Lead the development, design, and calibration of advanced propulsion control strategies for both conventional and electrified powertrains. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize system performance, reliability, and compliance through rigorous testing and validation.

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and at least 5 years of experience in propulsion system controls and calibration. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in control algorithm design and hands-on experience with powertrain systems.
