Forest Protection Limited is seeking a motivated leader to be our Deployable Assistant Chief Pilot in the Flight Operations Department. Reporting to the Chief Pilot, the incumbent promotes safe and efficient operation of all company aircraft on projects both within Canada and internationally (EU and USA). This person will assist with administration of daily flight operations, such as flying duties, training, all company flight manuals, and records as detailed in FPL's Company Operations Manual and regulations. Candidates must be open to change and adjustment as the company evolves and must work well in a team environment.

The Deployable Assistant Chief Pilot responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks during the "on-season" approximately March-October:

  • Prepared to lead a team of pilots deployed out of area, including the EU and USA.
  • Monitor daily flight activities out of area to ensure they are conducted in accordance with FPL instructions.
  • Assist Chief Pilot with maintaining pilot records as required
  • Coordinates required training programs for personnel, both on the ground and in the air
  • Maintain and update documents, including Standard Operating Procedures, Manuals, and develop new documents, if required.
  • Assist with information distribution in relation to safety policies, local operating procedures, and other relevant information.
  • Perform competently on FPL aircraft to establish procedures to operate such equipment.
  • Assist with planning professional development lessons for pilots and crew
  • Complete performance appraisals for pilots annually in a timely manner
  • Ensure that personnel are adhering to safety policies
  • Supervise flight crew: includes paperwork approvals, and tracking duty/rest periods, etc.
  • Remain current on developments in the field of forest protection and fire suppression by attending meetings/seminars and other information exchanges, reading published literature and reviewing pre-published material at colleagues' request, periodic training, familiarization with relevant technology, etc.
  • Respond to emergencies as per the Emergency Response Manual.
  • Assume any other responsibilities delegated by the Chief Pilot

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with over 2000 hours PIC and 300 hours tailwheel.
  • Experience in the 702 industry as an Air Tractor 802 pilot.
  • Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Aviation knowledge, including of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards.
  • Exceptional leadership attributes and personnel management acumen.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; able to prepare clear, concise and accurate correspondence, procedures and other written materials.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc)and proficient with computers including SharePoint.
  • Proven ability to organize, problem solve, and multi-task.

DESIRABLE SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Well-developed organizational skills, with ability to accomplish deadlines.
  • Experience in supporting decentralized operations.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience assisting the project/operations team with planning, directing and controlling the activities within scheduled time and cost parameters.
  • Preferred 3 years of managerial experience in corporate flight operations.
  • Proactive, ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Confident, able to work in a fast-paced emergency response aviation company.
  • Detail-Oriented, ability to prioritize and be proactive.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Being legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work abroad for up to six months annually 
  • Successful Criminal Record Check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination 
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Have a modern mobile phone capable of making phone calls and sending/receiving SMS and email
  • Have a passport
