About the role: The Manager, Data Engineering, acts primarily as a hands-on lead and mentor responsible for transforming data architecture vision into reliable, repeatable, and scalable data pipelines and data products. This role guides a talented but growing team on how to deliver efficiently while leading day-to-day engineering execution. The manager will establish robust data engineering practices across ingestion, transformation, testing, deployment, and operational support. Ultimately, this position bridges the gap between architectural strategy and practical, high-paced implementation. Responsibilities: ● Act as a lead, mentor, and expert individual contributor to demonstrate what it means to deliver at pace. ● Own day-to-day execution for the Data Engineering team by breaking work into tasks, driving sprint-level planning, and unblocking delivery. ● Drive implementation of the Medallion architecture with strong enforcement of layer responsibilities. ● Partner closely with the Data Architect to bring the architecture to life through concrete implementation patterns and guardrails. ● Manage a team of at least five employees, including three data engineers and a couple of analysts. ● Establish DataOps practices aligned with modern software development lifecycle, including CI/CD for data assets and code review standards. ● Collaborate with business partners to clarify requirements and reduce ad-hoc thrash. Must have skills: ● 10+ years of relevant professional experience in software / data engineering, including building production data pipelines and platforms. ● 2+ years of experience in a lead capacity, including team leadership, delivery ownership, and cross-functional coordination. ● Deep hands-on experience with Databricks (Spark) and Delta Lake patterns for scalable lakehouse processing. ● Strong experience with ETL/ELT design and implementation across curated layers. ● Demonstrated expertise implementing Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold). ● Track record of improving team maturity from reactive delivery to repeatable engineering execution. Nice to have skills: ● Experience directly managing a team, including conducting formal performance reviews. ● Hands-on experience with Boomi/Rivery. ● Experience partnering with application teams for upstream SQL Server systems. Conditions: ● Remote role, requiring 8 hours of overlap with Eastern Time (UTC-4). ● Contractor role, 12-month contract, renewable. ● Full‐time dedication (40 hours/week). ● BYOD (bring your own device) is required. What you’ll do

Requirements

Candidates must have over 10 years of experience in software or data engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Deep hands-on experience with Databricks and Medallion architecture is essential.
